Curcumin, The Golden Spice, is a polyphenol which has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years and has been pretty well studied for it’s positive health benefits. ( 1 2 ) It has a wide range of health benefits as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogen and may even prevent and inhibit cancer. ( 3 )
You can take turmeric as a supplement or purchase as a powder. To be effectively absorbed, make sure your supplement contains black pepper (piperine). Turmeric chelates iron and metals from the body and can cause anemia. I plan to take turmeric twice daily during detox and as needed following detox in my cessation. And, oh! You can also mix with coQ10 and apply to your face as a mask.
Benefits of Curcumin
Assists the body to produce and modulate dopamine and serotonin and is has been studied as a possible anti-depressant treatment aid. ( 4 5 6 ) Curcumin may also assist with chronic fatigue. ( 7 )
May balance insulin levels and reduce obesity and it’s ability to do so is linked to it’s affect in the gut microbiome ( 8 )
Reduces copper induced oxidative stress (high in smokers) and chelates iron ( 9 10 11 )
May help repair the skin by facilitating collagen synthesis and can also be used topically to aid wound healing. ( 12 )
