Smokers are deficient in magnesium so supplementation is key when I quit. Magnesium is necessary in the production of ATP for metabolism and it also helps your body to produce dopamine and improves circulation and the nervous system. There are different types of magnesium, the most common form is magnesium oxide. Magnesium Glycinate is superior to magnesium oxide for a few reasons. 1) Its the best form of magnesium for rebuilding magnesium levels and smokers are commonly deficient in magnesium. 2) It’s super calming. 3) It contains Glycine, the same amino acid that’s needed for ATP production and Collagen growth. I take magnesium 1/2 a dose (200mg) of magnesium glycinate at lunch or in the late afternoon and a full dose before bed, with or without my calcium supplement.
This study indicates the role in magnesium deficiency and nicotine addiction and suggests that magnesium supplementation may reduce addiction and assist in cessation. ( 1 )
