In order for your body to produce dopamine, it must have tyrosine along with copper and vitamins B3 (niacinamide), B6 (pyridoxine) and B9 (folic acid). Dopamine has an impact on everything from nervous system, mood, metabolism and energy and when smokers quit not only do they stop getting the constant dopamine release from smoking cigarettes, but it’s also likely that they have depleted their bodies reserves of dopamines. For that reason, taking tyrosine is a part of my quit smoking strategy.
In addition to helping your body to repair the dopamine neurotransmitters and produce dopamine, l-tyrosine helps with mental alertness, energy and may help with cravings. It can cause trouble sleeping if taken late in the day. I’m taking it twice a day with niacinamide, rhodiola rosea and chromium.
I also get some tyrosine in my other amino acid supplements.
